Review of FF14 Guide by Killer Guides

The independent authors at Killer Guides have brought another excellent addition into their guide library. Those ffxiv arr killerguides guideseeking an unbiased and comprehensive strategy guide for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn need look no further than the unofficial strategy guide offered at Killer Guides.

Unofficial? Can I Trust it?

A common, and warranted, concern with unofficial guides involves their validity. Will the information contained in the guide be real, or will it contain made up or theoretical strategies that haven’t been tested and may not even work? Killer Guides gives customers a level of protection and assurance when buying unofficial guides. The editors at Killer Guides ensure that all the content they offer is relevant and accurate.

There are also advantages to purchasing an unofficial guide. These guides are written by real players, not just editors or designers under the watchful eye of the game developers. Official guides are careful not to give away too much, or they only describe the strategies the developers want released. An unofficial guide doesn’t suffer these types of limitations. Many unique and interesting strategies can be found in unofficial guides that would be edited out of an official version.

Guide Style and Presentation

The FF14 Unofficial Guide works like any paper-based guide book. It contains text and images that walk the player through the various strategies on display. The guide is presented in electronic format as PDF or eBook. Customers wanting a paper copy will have to print their own, but this also saves a little money, and players can print out only the sections they really want.

The layout is straightforward without being too crowded or difficult to read. Images are of high quality, real in-game content and fully colored. In all respects, the quality of design matches that of official guide books.

Where the guide falls short on presentation is the lack of elements that usually accompany electronic guides, such as clickable indexes and animated presentations, videos or recordings. The guide is essentially the same type of content as a paper book, except without the paper.

Amount of Content

This guide is a comprehensive work covering all aspects of Final Fantasy XIV. It contains sections on leveling, Gil collecting, quest walkthrough, class and disciple discussions, character performance enhancement and crafting. Let’s take a closer look at each of these elements.

Leveling and Character Performance
At the highest level of play it is essential not to just understand how a character works, but to ensure that character is being played to the highest extent of their ability. This involves more than just grinding to the level cap and unlocking every ability and trait. Enhancing character performance to maximum involves practicing the optimum strategy of skill rotation and style for that character as well as equipping that character with the best gear for their specialty. This guide clearly outlines the best way to play each character type and optimum equipment and talents for each.

Class and Disciple Discussions
This guide has taken class information from the FF14: A Realm Reborn Compendium that lists veteran players’ favorite classes and strategies. There are many class creation choices in FF14, and the guide covers each possible combination. New players will get an idea of how a class is played in order to choose the best starting class for them, and veteran players may find an interesting combination that might not have occurred to them before.

Easy Money
Grinding out in-game currency is always a tedious task in games. This guide makes it easier. Although it makes some pretty big assumptions on just how much Gil can be made, it will at least ensure players earn more than they would on average.

Crafting Explored
Equipment creation is a complex art in FF14. The guide will give newer crafters a nice starting point and goal for their crafting, and veteran players may find recipes and material locations they have missed.

For those who still do not believe me about how great of the book of FFXIV strategy guide by KillerGuides, I encourage you to go there and check it yourself. I promise you. You will not be disappointed.

Introduction to FFXIV Jobs Part II (Bard, White Mage, Black Mage, Summoner, and Scholar)

Below you will find a basic introduction to the jobs system in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. For something more in-depth, expert recommendations and a brilliant leveling guide, my current recommendation is to pick up a copy of this FFXIV Class Guide. It blows pretty much anything else I’ve seen online clean out of the water.

ffxiv bard

Bard
In FFXIV, the Bard’s musical abilities do more than just entertain. Wielding a harp as a weapon of sorts, the Bard plays songs that fortify the other members of his party in battle. Bards also have the ability to hide during battle, and are invincible when hidden.

ffxiv white mage

White Mage
Dressed in white robes trimmed with red, White Mages have mastered the art of White Magic. Their healing, supportive spells can help even the most badly wounded members of their party. Although the White Mage’s armor is comparatively light, their high magic stats make up for this lack of protection.

ffxiv black mage

Black Mage
The Black Mage harnesses the destructive power of Black Magic through his use of attack spells. Even though they don’t carry much in the way of traditional weapons, Black Mages are capable of decimating their enemies through the use of their dark magic. In FFXIV, this job is attained by advancing through the Thaumaturge class.

ffxiv summoner

Summoner
Summoners have the unique ability to call forth the essence of otherworldly beasts known as “primals”. The Summoner job is available via advancement through the Arcanist class; the power to summon primals gives these special mages access to more abilities compared to the Arcanist.

ffxiv scholarScholar

Scholars are academics who wage war with their mind: books and grimoires are their weapons of choice. They have a deep understanding of the theory and strategy of war, and can utilize the magical spells of faeries to help and heal their compatriots.

We hope this summarized guide to the Jobs system was able to give you a rough idea what to expect with the game. A more comprehensive description covering gaming strategies and tips can be acquired through an FFXIV walk-through.

Introduction to FFXIV Jobs Part I (Paladin, Monk, Warrior, Dragoon)

Below you will find a basic introduction to the jobs system in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. For something more in-depth, expert recommendations and a brilliant leveling guide, my current recommendation is to pick up a copy of this FFXIV Class Guide. It blows pretty much anything else I’ve seen online clean out of the water.

Jobs occupy a unique place in the FFXIV Armory System. Somewhat different than the class system that already exists in the game, jobs can be thought of as super-specialized versions of each class. You can advance to a job after achieving a certain mastery of that job’s related class. For example, once you’ve swung your greataxe around enough and advanced a bit in the Marauder class, you can take on the Warrior job. The highly specialized skills offered by jobs are particularly useful in parties, where it’s good to have a sharply defined role. However, advancing to a job causes you to forfeit some freedom to pick and choose abilities across classes, so it may not always be the best choice for solo play.

ffxiv paladin

Paladin
The Paladin is a type of elite knight, known for a combat style that combines nimble swordplay with solid defensive action. They serve as bodyguards to the royal family, can cast White Magic spells, and have the ability to cover, or take physical damage in the place of, one of their allies.

Monkffxiv monk

The super-strong Monks are warriors who generally rely on their bare hands in battle. Byharnessing the power found in the Chakra points in the body, Monks have incredible physical abilities and thus perform well in battle. Though they do not wear armor, Monks compensate for this vulnerability by having a higher-than-usual amount of HP (Health Points).

Warrior

warrior

Warriors are savage fighters who wield greataxes on the battlefield, usually with brutal results. One of the “basic” jobs in FFXIV, the Warrior usually focuses on inflicting damage, and can survive unusually well in battle due to higher physical stats.

ffxiv dragoon

Dragoon
With their ability to leap high in the air during battle, Dragoons are known for their high-flying style of combat which allows them to impale enemies upon descent. These powerful fighters utilize spears and lances, and wear dragon-inspired armor. Players can advance to the Dragoon job after mastering abilities in both the Lancer and Pugilist classes.

Final Fantasy XIV Realm Reborn Classes and Jobs Explained

Below you will find a basic introduction to the classes and jobs system in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. For something more in-depth, expert recommendations and a brilliant leveling guide, my current recommendation is to pick up a copy of this FFXIV Class Guide. It blows pretty much anything else I’ve seen online clean out of the water.

The highly anticipated Square Enix MMORPG, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is currently a relaunch of FFXIV in the Final Fantasy series. After harsh criticism from players and critics alike, the company decided to take FFXIV version 1.0 down and rebuilt the MMORPG entirely. While this MMORPG will still have the same lore and original story as the first installment, things like content and player interface have greatly changed. The highly anticipated Square Enix MMORPG, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is currently a relaunch of FFXIV in the Final Fantasy series. final fantasy xiv realm reborn class and job guide

In this game players will be able to select a class from four base disciplines. In each discipline there are an assortment of classes to choose from. Each is broken down into different types: Masters of Weapon and Combat (melee), Casters, Crafters and Gatherers. Players will not have to be worried about being pigeon-holed into one class. At any time they choose (except during battle) players can equip a different weapon to level a new class. For example, if the player initially selected the Arcanist class from the Disciplines of Magic group, he can simply equip a different weapon to be a Conjurer in the same discipline group. If a player does equip a different weapon, they will need to level up the new class they have selected. It must also be noted that points achieved through leveling up can be used in both classes to mix and match abilities to the player’s liking.

Jobs are a bit different compared to classes in FFXIV. When a player chooses a class, they can proceed with types of specializations for the specific class. In order to achieve the job specialization, the player will need to advance his class to a certain point. Once that point is reached, a quest will be unlocked. Upon the completion of the quest the player will be given a soul crystal that allows the specialization to occur. The main advantages of jobs is the possibility of specializing in a role in instances and party play. While jobs may prove advantageous for players who enjoy playing with their friends in group, players who prefer soloing may see job specializations as a disadvantage. When selecting a job, players will limit their ability to use cross class abilities. They will be only be able to use half the number of skills once they get a job for their main class. The choice of choosing a job is entirely up to the player in FFXIV. Should he decide not to specialize in a certain class, he can continue using cross class abilities by swapping weapons.

Final Fantasy XIV Class Guide

Below you will find a basic introduction to the classes in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. For something more in-depth, expert recommendations and a brilliant leveling guide, my current recommendation is to pick up a copy of this FFXIV Class Guide. It blows pretty much anything else I’ve seen online clean out of the water.

To change your class in Final Fantasy XIV is as simple as changing what weapon you are equipped with. You can find NPC venders all around Limsa Lominsa selling Rank 1 weapons for each class and thanks to having substantial inventory space there is no harm in stocking up on each classes’ weapon early on.

The various Final Fantasy XIV classes available are grouped together under certain disciplines. Your combat centered classes fall under Disciples of War, crafting classes under Disciples of the Hand and gathering classes under Disciples of the Land.

What follows is a brief overview of the various FFXIV classes and the styles they play in. A list of skills, traits, abilities and spells for each differs (see also ffxivclasses.com for more details).

The Final Fantasy XIV classes are categorized under disciples and are currently as follows:

Disciples of War – Archer, Gladiator, Lancer, Marauder and Pugilist

Disciples of the Hand – Alchemist, Armorer, Blacksmith, Carpenters, Culinarian, Goldsmith, Leatherworker and Weaver.

Disciples of Magic – Conjurer and Thaumaturge

Disciples of the Land – Botanist, Fisher and Miner

Final Fantasy XIV Guides to each of the disciple can be found in most forums and community sites and will be added here shortly as well.

Races in FF14 Realm Reborn

Below you will find a basic introduction to the races in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. For something more in-depth, expert recommendations and a brilliant leveling guide, my current recommendation is to pick up a copy of this FFXIV Leveling Guide. It blows pretty much anything else I’ve seen online clean out of the water.

In the world of Eorzea there are five selectable playable races and within some there are sub-races or variants based on your selected background. Unlike previous Square Enix games or other MMORPG, racial choice in FFXIV has no influence over statistics or performance.

The one thing that does have influence during creation of a character is the sign you select for them to be born under, however this feature is not implemented in the Beta.

Payable races in Final Fantasy XIV are as follows:

  • Hyur
  • Lalafell
  • Elezen
  • Miqo’te
  • Roegadyn

More information about each of the races can also be found here.

Walk-through to Class Rank

Below you will find a basic introduction to class ranks in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. For something more in-depth, expert recommendations and a brilliant leveling guide, my current recommendation is to pick up a copy of this FFXIV Leveling Guide. It blows pretty much anything else I’ve seen online clean out of the water.

There are two types of progress to be made in FFXIV and these are Class Ranks and Physical Level.

Class Ranks refer to the rank of your currently selected class and nothing else while Physical Level is your character’s strength regardless of class. For example; you are Physical Level 10 and are a Rank 6 Pugilist. This rank is retained even if you change to a different class and also opens up the customization options available to you as certain abilities, traits and spells can be interchanged once you have learned them. If you then changed to Lancer Rank 1, you would still be Physical Level 10.

Rank increases by gaining skill in the weapon or tool you are required to equip in order to play as that class. This might display like “Your Hand-to-Hand skill improves by 45” after killing an enemy.

Classes’ Physical Level Explained

Below you will find a basic introduction to physical levels in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. For something more in-depth, expert recommendations and a brilliant leveling guide, my current recommendation is to pick up a copy of this FFXIV Class Guide. It blows pretty much anything else I’ve seen online clean out of the water.

Physical Level increases by gaining experience Points. This might display like “You gain 1500 Experience Points” after killing an enemy.

The progress for both of these can be checked by looking at the top of the screen when you bring up your main menu (-).

The only way to learn abilities, traits and spells is to gain ranks in classes. The only way to improve your statistics is through gaining Physical Levels.

When you gain a Physical Level you are given six skill points to distribute among your stats (STR, VIT, DEX and so on) and six for elemental defense (Lightning, Fire, Water and so on) and this is done via ‘Point Allocation’ in your menu. Should you make a mistake or simply not like how you have used your points, you can buy a reallocation option.
